IT for businesses that work on site
Construction businesses and trades work differently from office based firms. The office may be small, but the business runs across vans, cabins and clients' buildings. Site managers need the latest drawings, surveyors need to share photos and reports, and the office needs timesheets, job costs and invoices to flow back without chasing.
Cyber Fits is a family run IT company based in Sunderland, supporting businesses of around 5 to 100 staff across Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Teesside. We set up and support IT that works for mobile teams, keeps company data safe and helps you win the contracts you are going for.
Mobile teams and devices
We set up Microsoft 365 so staff can get to email, Teams and files from a laptop, tablet or phone, with multi factor authentication protecting every account. Company devices are managed centrally, so we can push out apps and settings, keep them updated and remotely wipe a lost or stolen device. Where staff use their own phones, we can protect company data in work apps without taking control of their personal device.
Site connectivity
A new site cabin often needs internet from day one, well before any fixed line could be installed. We supply and configure business 4G and 5G routers with suitable antennas, set up WiFi for the cabin and welfare units, and keep the site network separate from any visitor or subcontractor devices. Where a site needs remote monitoring, we can install CCTV that you can view from your phone. When the job finishes, the kit comes back and goes to the next site.
For the main office, our sister brand Cyber Fibre provides business broadband, and Virtual Voice Office provides business phones that ring on mobiles, so calls reach the right person whether they are in the office or on site.
Document control that works
Building from an old revision of a drawing is one of the most expensive mistakes on a job. Many smaller contractors still rely on email attachments, shared drives and files saved on individual laptops. We help you set up a clear structure in SharePoint or your chosen document system, with sensible folders per project, controlled access for subcontractors and clients, and version history so you can always see what changed and when. If you use specialist construction software, we make sure the devices and connections it relies on are dependable.
Cyber Essentials and public sector work
The UK Government has required suppliers bidding for certain central government contracts to hold Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus since 2014. The current guidance is Procurement Policy Note 014, published in February 2025, which applies to central government departments, their agencies, NHS bodies and non departmental public bodies; other public bodies may choose to follow it. Main contractors often pass similar expectations down to their supply chain.
Cyber Essentials checks five controls: firewalls, secure configuration, user access control, malware protection and security updates. We help construction firms get ready by fixing the gaps across office computers, laptops and mobile devices, and help with the questionnaire. Certification itself is carried out by an independent certification body, and it needs renewing each year.
Protecting against payment fraud
Construction firms pay a lot of suppliers and subcontractors by bank transfer, which makes them targets for fake invoices and emails claiming bank details have changed. Email security, multi factor authentication and a simple rule of confirming any change of bank details by phone on a known number prevent most of these losses.
